Our recommendation

When it’s stormy outside, or how the locals say it «strubusset», and cold, the best thing you can do is having a Fondue or a «Käseschnitte» (Swiss cheese toast) in a cosy restaurant in good company.

This is even better after a snowshoe tour.

Off into the winter mountain landscape

Be the first to leave your footprints in the fresh snow

With snowshoes you’ll walk through deep snow. It takes only a few hundred meters from the starting point to feel as if you were in another world. A peaceful world far away from your daily life. Today, you’re the first person on this trail and yours are the only footprints. You’re surrounded by winter peace. It’s an impressive natural experience with space to slow down.

Snowshoe hiking is more than just stumbling around in deep snow. It’s a way for outdoor fiends to approach the winter mountain landscape in a new way. No wonder snowshoe hiking is becoming more and more popular. It’s easy to learn and a very healthy winter sport. In addition, there’s almost no need for infrastructure.

What do you need for your tour?

Even if you’re wearing snowshoes for the first time, you’ll enjoy it. Snowshoe hiking is suitable for almost everyone with a basic fitness level. If you just want to try it out, you can rent snowshoes first, without having to buy them. Both our sport shops and the Gsässweid Inn rent the equipment you’ll need. (see also «equipment» in each tour description)

Apart from snowshoes and poles, you’ll only have to take with you what you need for most other winter sports: clothes which you can layer and are suitable for different temperatures, good winter shoes, enough food and drinks for the tour, sun protection and maps.

Signposted snowshoe trails in the Diemtigtal Nature Park

Our inspected and pink marked trails are suitable for everyone, even if you don’t have a lot of experience or don’t have a tour guide with you. Find our winter sports report showing you which trails are currently open here > Infosnow

Snowshoe hiking off the marked trails

Snowhshoe hiking off the marked trails is only recommended if you’re used to snowshoe hiking or familiar with the area. It’s very important to consider weather and avalanche conditions. Even if snowshoe hiking is a sustainable sport, you have to respect nature. Information about how to plan tours to respect local wildlife can be found here > respect to protect

Guided snowshoe tours

If you’re not snowshoe hiking on the marked snowshoe trails, we recommend that you hike with a local guide. They know the area and are able to evaluate the dangers during the hike. Moreover, they know a lot about the Diemtigtal (Diemtig valley) and its characteristics. This enriches your tour and makes it a memorable experience.
